Unlocking student lifecycle insights with governed data infrastructure

Challenge

A large state university set out to modernize its data and analytics environment to surface student lifecycle insights and advance its data governance program. The existing systems lacked the governance controls, transparency, and analytical capability needed to track and improve student progression from offer acceptance through registration, and the underlying infrastructure could not support structured pipelines, consistent data models, or long-term operational scaling.

The university needed a secure, scalable foundation that could do both: power student lifecycle analytics and stand up the governance program at the same time.

Solution

OneSix provisioned a secure cloud environment built on Snowflake and Informatica IDMC, with SSO/SCIM authentication and role-based access controls in place from the outset. The team designed a medallion architecture with structured Bronze, Silver, and Gold pipelines, standardized assets and reusable patterns across Snowflake and Informatica, and CI/CD pipelines paired with DevSecOps practices to support long-term operational scaling.

Reusable data models built on Azure and Oracle PeopleSoft integrations created a consistent semantic layer the university could extend. Governance foundations supporting stewardship, lineage, and glossary use were embedded into the architecture rather than bolted on, so each new data asset enters a governed environment by default.

The platform now powers analytics tracing the student journey from offer acceptance through registration, gives the university a secure and compliant environment with the controls accreditation and audit require, and provides infrastructure-ready workflows for the next phase of the governance program.
